Heteronyms, Work-in-Progress Inspired by Fernando Pessoa

Heteronyms is a work-in-progress inspired by writings of Fernando Pessoa and The Book of Disquiet.

The project began in 2017 by composers, Paul Godwin and MIguel Noya (Dogon), and created over time with Ameera Godwin, Including the 2018 performance, I Am the Size of What I See in Evora, Portugal, the EP album, I Am the Size of What I See, and the 2023 visual reverie, Child of the Incoming Fog. The larger work is envisioned as an experimental dance/theatre collaboration combined with music and media.

Child of The Incoming Fog

Child of The Incoming Fog is a component of the larger work-in-progress,  Heteronyms, inspired by the writings of Fernando Pessoa and The Book of  Disquiet, created during an Artist-in-Residency at Centrum, located at  Fort Worden, WA, US, in September, 2023.  Child of The Incoming Fog: Music composed by Paul Godwin and Miguel Noya (Dogon) Video by Ameera Godwin (More at aegodwin.com)

The video combines words from Pessoa and original music and vocals in a  visual reverie of a writer's mind traversing watery, misty landscapes,  shadowy passageways and enclosures, memories and imaginings on  isolation, loss, identity, and possibilities.

Guardador

"Guardador", a musical work from "Eu sou do tamanho do que vejo", in which a young keeper of sheep walks the Alentejo, as a memory of a lost WWI soldier.

From the 2018 I Am the Size of What I See, the piece is dedicated to Evora’s soldiers of the Great War, drawing from various poems by Fernando Pessoa and his heteronym, the shepherd poet, Alberto Caeiro.

Music composed and performed by Paul Godwin and Miguel Noya (Dogon).

When I Die

"When I Die", a musical work from Eu sou tamanho do que vejo, a vision of death and reunion.

The 2018 musical theatre production, I Am the Size of What I See was performed in Evora, Portugal as part of the city's 100-year commemoration of WWI. The piece was built from various fragments by Fernando Pessoa.

Music composed and performed by Paul Godwin and Miguel Noya (Dogon).
